Formed in 2018, Unison are Julia Wilson on vocals, keyboards and guitars, Marty Bouma on vocals, bass guitar and guitars, John Burnip on drums and vocals and Ian Cameron on guitars and vocals. Playing original melodic pop rock music, Unison pride themselves on being a democratic outfit where all voices are heard and everybody brings something to the table. In the spirit of this camaraderie, Unison are constantly writing, recording and producing new material adding to their ever growing repertoire of original music.True to their name, Unison are an interwoven melting pot of ideas and inspiration which results in a satisfying blend of melody, harmony and rhythm. Julia Wilson grew up on the Coffs Coast surrounded by musical influences including rock, folk, indy and pop music. Playing live since she was 14, Julia has been writing, performing and championing the cause of original music in the Coffs Harbour area with a number of acts over this time. Since meeting Marty and John, Julia has excelled as one of the founding members of Unison. Julia’s multi-talented musical skills continue to shine where she contributes keyboards, vocals and guitars and is a co-writer of Unison's original material.
Born and bred in Brisbane, Marty Bouma has been performing original music since he was 16. Marty spent the late 1980s and 90s playing blues rock in the iconic Brisbane music scene with original acts such as Blackwater and Wizard. He moved to Coffs Harbour in the early 2000s and has been playing original music and covers in the local scene since this time, teaming up with John Burnip in a cover band in 2011. Marty co-writes and produces Unison's iconic original music, while also contributing bass, guitars and vocals.
John Burnip has been playing in bands in the UK since he was 16. John was a founding member of the UK band “Mr Big” recording 2 albums and releasing numerous singles on Epic, EMI and Arista records over a 5-year period. He has worked in music management for Hit and Run music in London looking after the band Broken Home who recorded 2 albums for WEA records. John moved to Australia in 2006, deciding to settle on the Coffs Coast where his passion for music was regenerated. He has played in many local Coffs Coast cover bands, where he teamed up with Marty in 2011. As a fellow founding member of Unison, John is a co-writer of Unison’s original music and provides the driving rhythms behind their tunes.
